Journal stopped automatic recording--how to troubleshoot?

I have several automatic recording options enabled in Outlook journal, but
none of them work. I checked the registry and it reacts properly to
activation/deactivation of various items. What else can I do to fix this? It
used to work fine and record all of my file openings until about a month ago.
Nothing that I can tell changed since then...
