Journal view - By Contact

J

John Walker

When I switch to the Journal and then select to view 'By
Contacts' - I'd expect to see ALL of my Contacts listed.
Instead, there's only a few - so I can't easily track what
actions I have taken against a particular Contact.
I know this is precisely what the Activities tab is for -
but this isn't working either - selecting this gets me the
error message, "Outlook cannot display this view. A folder
by this name already exists". Why?
But nevertheless, the Journal view by Contacts should be
showing me all Contacts - including those in sub-folders.
Instead, I seem to get a small cross section. Anyone with
any ideas or solutions for either problem please?

Outlook just doesn't work that way. An Outlook view shows the data in the currently displayed folder. In other words, changing the view on the Journal folder changes only how the data **in the Journal folder** is presented. It cannot show you data in some other folder. The By Contacts view shows items grouped by related contact, for only those contacts who have items currently in the journal folder.

The Activities tab error sounds like there might be a problem with the activities groups defined on the Properties dialog for the Contacts folder. Try redoing the default group.
