Journaling Questions

More journaling questions. Please forgive if I post to the wrong folder(s)
as there is no one particular folder associated with jornal
issues/programming.

1) Is there any way to create a macro (?) to create a journal entry for any
of the following events:
a) Start/Close Outlook
b) Start/Close Windows
c) Read/Forward/Reply to email
d) Start/Close IE
2) There is a task list in Outlook and "Task" entries in the Journal, is
there any way to create a journal entry for
a) New Task
b) Modify Task
c) Task Completed

Again, I know that few people actually use the Journal in Outlook (actually
this is an assumption based on my limited experience, but I presume it is
correct). However, I believe that this is a great tool which could be much
better if it was tweaked/expanded a bit. Is there an email for "wish list"
requests to Microsoft for Journal? Also, how would I request that there be
a newsgroup created for outlook.journal?

One last question: where do I find FAQs to let me know what topics are
appropriate on each newsgroup?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

a) Start yes, Close yes, but somewhat difficult.
b) No.
c) Read, yes, if you count changing a message's state to Read=True. Forward
and Reply, yes but quite difficult.
d) No, unless IE itself has some event for open/close you can use to
automate Outlook. YOu might ask in an IE group if you can find one where
programmers hang out.

2) Yes, but potentially somewhat difficult if you want to monitor only Tasks
in the Tasks folder; quite difficult if you want to watch all tasks folders.

Consensus seems to be that there are not enough journal questions to warrant
a separate group. If you don't see a newsgroup on a specific Outlook topic,
use outlook.general for user questions and outlook.program_vba for general
programming questions. Please do not crosspost.

If you're new to Outlook VBA macros, these web pages should help you get
started:

You'll find lots of references at the second page to existing code samples.
I'd recommend that you pick one simple project and master the different
building blocks for that project, rather than try to do it all at once.

Asking specific how-to questions in the microsoft.public.outlook.program_vba
group will get you the best answers.
