JPEG images inserted into Word are not correct size

I have several JPEG images that I need to insert into a Word 2002 document. I
need these images to be a specific size so in Adobe Photoshop I have resized
the images. The images are high-resolution - 300 ppi.

My problem is that when I insert the image into Word the image size gets
blown up. For instance an image that was supposed to be 4 inches high is now
7 inches high. I know that through the Format Picture dialog box I can resize
the picture back down, but I would rather not go through this extra step.

Any suggestions?

Hi Caslon,

Saving a graphic in a certain pixel size and storing the
pixel per inch information in the graphic are not always the
same thing.

If your JPG has a 300PPI setting stored in the graphic then
Word will use it when you use Insert=>Picture from File and,
in many cases, for pasted graphics. If your graphic does not
store the PPI information in the graphic (default for JPG is
96PPI) then Word uses the setting in
Tools=>options=>General=>[Web Options]=>Pictures
to determine how to size the graphic.
