jpg appear black

I am on a MAC g4 with Tiger. I use office 2004. When I insert a jpg
picture into WORD in appears as solid black although it appears just
fine in other applications like preview.
How do I get the image to appear?

It is likely that the jpg is set to CMYK colour rather than rgb. Check this
out in Photoshop or Illustrator (if you have them), and if this is the case
then convert the picture to RGB and save. The picture should display in
Word.

All Office apps are RGB apps.
