JPG attachment won't send

When sending an email with a picture attached, Outlook 2000 will time out.
I am using a Linksys router to my cable modem and have enabled and set the
MTU to 1492 with no change in the results.
What other things may be causing the problem?

I am set for HTML format and MS Word is my email editor on a Windows 2000
Professional OS.
