Since I ran a MS security update in late December, any JPG images I send to PC users cannot be viewed or opened by them, even after detaching them from email. What's the fix for this? I need to do this routinely at work.

What happens when they try?

What form of encoding are you using? (You should use Base64.)

I save it as a JPEG, set Quality options and Format options.
Format options are either Baseline Standard or Baseline Optimized.

The message the users receive when they open the file is: Preview not available. If they try inserting it into a document it is just white.

This only happens through Entourage.

Those answers don't address Adam's question. When you add an attachment, you
must also choose an encoding method. You can do this in Entourage >
Preferences, or you can set it specifically (i.e., override the Preference)
on each message.

Adam's advice (with which I concur) is to encode for Windows (Base64/MIME).
You should also include Windows file name extensions, so that Mac file names
without extensions get the extensions added when you attach the files..

I'm having the same issue here and the crazy thing is that if that pc user
forwards the email I send to them to their hotmail account, they are then
able to open the JPG. Or another weird one is that I sent an email with a
JPG attachment to "User 1" she was not able to open the attachment so she
forwarded it to "User 2" to see if it would work on her machine, it opened
fine, "User 2" then attached the same file to a new email and sent it back
to "User 1" and "User 1" was now able to open it.

I just checked and the encoding in my preferences is set to AppleDouble, I
will try changing it and see if I have any luck.

Changing the encoding to Windows (Base64/MIME) has fixed the problem for me,
thanks for the tip.

It worked for me as well.
I have not had to change from the default encoding method previously. My default has always been set for "Any computer" and it has worked until the last month.

I'm glad that Base64/MIME is working for you. I have had trouble with
AppleDouble sending to some computers, whereas I've never had any complaints
when using Base64/MIME
