JPG not visible in prior versions of Word

We created a document in Word2003 which includes an
embedded (not linked) jpg file of our company logo. When
we sent this document as an email attachment to a user of
Word2000, they cannot see the logo. Instead they see a
picture placeholder with a red x indicating a missing
image. Users of Office XP or higher have no problem
viewing the logo. Any ideas?

First check whether that user has Tools > Options > View > Picture
placeholders set - if so, get them to clear it.
