JPG problems when going from Mac Word to Windows Word

T

Tlacatecatl

I'm running OS 10.2.8 on a PowerBook G4 and using Word for the Mac.

I've created a Word document with both text and embedded JPG graphics.

When I burn a CD and pop it into a Windows box I see my text, but in place of
the JPG's I see the message "Quicktime and a TIFF (uncompressed) decompressor
are needed to see this picture."

Has Mac Word used QT compression to resize the JPG's and Windows can't figure
this out? Any workarounds?

I tried Googling this newsgroup's archives with some relevant terms but
didn't find anything directly pertinent, sorry if I'm repeating a well known
problem.

Thanks for any and all help.

Are you certain they were JPEGs, not TIFFs saved with JPEG compression? It's
an option in Photoshop -- I know what TIFF is, and I know what JPEG is, but
what a TIFF saved with JPEG compression is I have no idea!

I downloaded the files form sources which claimed they were JPEG images. The
files have .jpg extensions, and when I do a "Get Info" it lists "Kind: JPEG
Image". I pasted them directly into a Word document. But I don't how to
determine independently that they are in fact JPEG files.

It's my understanding the PC and Mac binary coding for JPEG is
different. When using PS for Mac, I know to save for PC when necessary.
PS prompt you to choose either Mac or PC.

Workarounds-

1. Save as a PDF. OS X allow all print files to be saved as PDF.
2. Use Photoshop as a Mac to PC JPEG converter.
3. Kill PC users.
4. Save as BMP
5. Save as Gif
6. Send you PC Windoze friend a Mac/PC converter such as Dave or others.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

That would explain it.

Thank you! I can't believe I was so dumb that I didn't think of this. You've
solved my problem, many thanks.
3. Kill PC users.

Hmmm, not a bad idea. My wife is a PC user, perhaps you can look for our
story on a future episode of Law and Order. Not guilty by virtue of PC defect
or disease.
