Jumping Insertion Point

R

Richard Toronto

Every few minutes when I am writing a document (Word 2003) my insertion point
suddenly jumps forward or backward a few sentences within the document. I
usually do not notice at first, and continue writing, and this creates a fair
bit of confusion. I have tried to analyse the problem for months, thinking
there might be a certain string of characters that causes the jump, but I
have not been able to find a consistent pattern, other than the last typed
letter before the jump is almost always is a vowel. It happens when composing
emails as well as standard Word documents, and in this case the jump will
often be into the text of the original message to which I am replying, which
is of course in the message composition window.

Any guesses on what might be causing this, and how it could be remedied??

Laptop? You have an over sensitive touch pad. Keep your hands away from it
and don't bang on the keys so hard. Or turn it off and use a mouse.
It is also possible that you have voice recognition active and it is
responding to the microphone. Turn off the microphone.
