Jumping Margins

I have a right margin in a file I received that is about 17 inches, way too
far to work with. When I manually move it to the left, the left margin jumps
several inches to the right. This is really frustrating and reminds me a lot
of Word 2003.

What you describe is a corrupt printer driver. First go the the support site
for the printer and make sure you have the latest driver: then delete and
reinstall the printer.

It seems my post last night was not registered.

After looking at the file more, I discovered that the problem arises from
tables in the document*. Every time I try to move the right margin from 17
inches (or so) back to something reasonable, the left margin jumps to the
right several inches.

Can a printer driver really affect what is happening on my screen?

* I reported during beta testing of Word 2007 that it is difficult to see
invisible tables, but the issue was evidently not addressed. In Word 2003, it
is very easy to tell when you have a table that is invisible, and indeed this
caused me to not realize the problem is being caused by a table.

The issue is solved. It was due to an add-in.

After playing around with Word 2007 for a while, I discovered the option to
uncheck add-ins hidden in a series of menus. That's something I need to
constantly check and uncheck as some of my clients require them and sometimes
they cause problems.

I take that back. The issue is not solved. I had set the page to size A3 and
forgot about it.

I guess I'll edit online because I need to send this to the client and hope
someone comes up with a solution for the jumping margins problem.

This issue is not solved. I forgot that I had set the paper to A3.

I can't print A3, so I guess I'll edit online so I can get it to the client
and hope someone solves this long-standing Word issue.
