Junk-E-Mail

Markus Moses

Hi there,

I have a question concerning Entourage.

When we get a Junk-E-Mail, how can I mark it as "not Junk".
Is there any "Save sender List" as in Outlook?
Or is there a "White List"?

Thanks
Markus

If you view Junk Mail in the preview pane, you should see a link labeled
"This is not junk e-mail". Click that link (or select Mark as Not Junk from
the Message menu). You will see a dialog box giving you four options. Read
them and choose the one that seems to best meet your needs for that message.
Note: be careful about creating a mailing list rule; many users have found
that these rules have unexpected and unwanted side effects.

If you need more help, select Entourage Help in the Help menu and search for
"junk e-mail".

Yes

Not a specific list.
Or is there a "White List"?

Not using that term.

The JMF never assigns messages from contacts in your Address Book to the
Junk category.

If mail is mistakenly marked as Junk by the JMF, open the message, click on

"This is not junk mail" and select the best option.

I can't remember if Entourage 2004 has the link at the top of the message,
but in Entourage 2008 you don't have to open the message you can just click
on the link. There is also an icon you can add to the toolbar in 2008 "not
junk."

The Entourage Junk Mail Filter does not learn. It is updated periodically.
If you feel you need a Bayesian spam filter, check out SpamSieve.

Hope this helps!

Just to be clear. Mailing List Manager rules are not in themselves
problematic, it's the marking as junk that can sometimes result in a bogus
Mailing List Manager rule that you don't want.

The Mailing List Manager is a great way to deal with mail from mailing
lists.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

Use the MLM for all lists. Use rules for the remainder. Try to use
categories instead of individual addresses when possible. When a new address
is added to a contact in the Address Book then it will automatically be
acted on by the rule if you use categories in your rules. See example:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/example/rule002.html>

1) POP Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the Inbox (On My
Computer), NOT when it arrives in any other folder. Once it's moved to
another folder it won't be seen by rules.

2) IMAP Rules are meant to act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in
the IMAP INBOX, not when moved to another IMAP folder.

3) Exchange Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the
Exchange Inbox.

Each type of account has it's own rules. Click on the correct tab to check
your rules. (Mail (POP), Mail (IMAP) Mal (Windows Live Hotmail) Mail
(Exchange), News, Outgoing)
