I just got done troubleshooting 0x80042108 and 0x80042109 errors on a
customer's computer. Oulook 2003 with all updates on an XPPro installation
with all updates.
Customer texts me this morning that over the weekend he has not been able to
send email on the two accounts that are entered into his Outlook 2003.
Of course searching on the error messages yields an approriate MS KB
article, but wouldn;t you know it, the article is "not available at this
time."
Plenty of web searching turns up a lot of dead ends and the tiresome "It's
Norton's fault, dump Norton" claptrap. Enabled te logging feature of Outlook
but you need a lot of deep background to really knwo what you are looking at,
and a log is still log, meaning a record of what is happening and not an
explanation for why it is happening.
As a last resort before an onsite visit to rip both Outlook and NIS out by
the roots, I remote in and start uninstalling two Outlook related updates
that went in on 12/12/07, the update that helps Outlook work with Windows
Live nd the Junk Email filter. No Joy on the patch, but after a remote
restart and uninstallation of the Junk Email filter, baddabing, we're back to
normal!!!
So Outlook Team, take a closer look at that Junk Email Filter, it's from
hunger.
