Junk mail - "always allow from Sender's domain" doesn't seem totake

M

Michael Levin

I'm using Entourage 2004 w/ Exchange server. I notice the following. If an
email gets put into the Junk folder, and I hit "not Junk" and then select
"always allow emails from Sender's domain", it gets put into my Inbox for a
while, but it doesn't seem to take permanently: a little while later, that
same email will be automatically put into the Junk folder again! What am I
missing? How do I convince it that this emails from this domain really
should never be tagged as Junk?

What kind of account are you using (POP, IMAP or Exchange)?

Instead of marking as not junk, add the contact to your Address Book.
Command-Option-C is the shortcut. Be sure to assign a category when you
create the contact.

I've found that safe domains is not as accurate as the actual contact entry.

Exchange.

Sorry, I skipped over that when I first read your message. This could be
a couple of things.

1. I wonder if your Exchange Server is classifying the message as junk
and moving it. You can test this by quitting Entourage altogether and
then logging in to your account using Outlook or Outlook Web Access
(OWA). Move the message and wait a while. Does it move back? If so, then
the server, not Entourage, is the problem.

2. You may need to clear the caches for your Inbox and Junk E-mail
folders. Right-click or Control-click your Inbox and Junk E-mail
folders, select Folder Properties and click the Empty button to empty
the cache. You can also select the account itself and empty the cache
for all of your folders.

Hope this helps!

dang it! I've tried that just now and it still moved it back to Junk! I
added the contact (to my Exchange contacts list) and several minutes later,
the email was gone from my Inbox and in the Junk folder...

Have you checked under Tools --> Rules... to see if anything there is
set to mark items at Junk? Also, check Tools --> Junk E-mail
Protection... for wrongly added items to your Blocked Senders.

where's the blocked senders? I see a "safe domains" tab and a "Level"
tab, but no blocked senders. Is it an Office 2008 thing? I'm using 2004
still...

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, that's part of 2008 only. So, probably not the cause of your
problem with Entourage.

What Level is your Junk E-mail Protection using now? Have you tried
kicking it down a notch? Set it to None and see what happens. If your
message moves again then something else is moving it such as a Rule or a
server side rule.
