There are two ways to do formatting in Word: the Easy way, using Styles, and
the Hard way, using direct formatting.
In the Word Help, search for "Styles" and read everything you find. Ensure
that you set the Help to go online, so it can retrieve the movies from the
server. They will show you exactly what to do.
A Style is a collection of formatting properties. We give it a name, so we
can find it again whenever we need it.
Instead of setting the formatting on the "text", you set the formatting in
the style, then apply the style. Next time you want the same formatting,
you simply apply the style: you already did all the work the first time.
A Word document has about 147 built-in styles which cover nearly all common
needs: you can simply use them; or you can customise them to your own
requirements, or you can create new styles.
Look for, and open, the Toolbox, then open the Styles tab, and off you go...

Version: 2008 I am used to using a PC and this is my first Mac- I am not used
to this version of word. I would like to do simple things like change the
color of the font or make the font bold or underlined but I don't know where
to go for those options. There are tables and columns and other elaborate
applications but I would just simply like the basics. So, if anyone could
point me in the right direction that would be tremendous!
