justification problem

I'm having problems with justifying lines in WORD XP version. I'm using an HP Laserjet 1200 printer and the justification ends up separating letters in words rather than spacing between words. I've tried using the WordPerfect version but that doesn't correct the problem either. Is there an update? I haven't found one. Is there another solution? I'm trying to do a technical book that is 400 pages long!!! Help!

The latest version of Word is 2003 (XP is 2002).

I'd try two things in Word 2002 (XP). First, choose Tools - Options -
Compatibility, and reverse the current setting of "Do full justification
like WordPerfect 6.x for Windows."

If that doesn't produce the desired results, visit www.hp.com and try
downloading a new driver for your printer.

While I don't have the solution to your problem, I have to ask:

Are your writing the manuscript or are you actually trying to use Word
as your typesetting program?

If you're using Word to typeset a 400 page technical book, then you'll
probably find it a very frustrating experience. A page layout
application would be a better choice.

This usually turns out to be a printer driver problem. Try www.hp.com for an
updated driver.
