Justify won't work

I am using Word 2007 and justify won't work. It will center, left align,
right align but not justify. I pressed ctrl+* and nothing showed up. In the
paragraph group I selected the picture with lines all the way accoss. I also
went to indents and spaces and selected General Alignment Justified. Does
anyone have any other suggestions?

How much text is there in the paragraph you're trying to justify? If it
doesn't go all the way to the right margin (i.e., and wrap to the next
line), then justification doesn't have any effect (unless you change the
defaults).

Try this. On a blank line type:

=rand()

and press Enter. This should create some text for testing. Put the insertion
point anywhere in the first paragraph, and press Ctrl+J. This toggles
justification on/off. Does it have an effect there?

For Ctrl+*... are you pressing Ctrl+Shift and 8/* on the top row? This
should toggle non-printing formatting marks on/off. If you're just pressing
Ctrl+ the 8/* key, that combination by default has no assignment in Word.
(Note: I realize that technically, Ctrl+Shift+8 is Ctrl+*, but not everyone
thinks in those terms, so I just want to make sure that when you say Ctrl+*,
that you know that means you need to be pushing the Shift key as well in
order to effectively access the * bit.

Thank you for assistance. By doing what you told me can do it one line at a
time.
I was trying to do a whole page at a time by selecting it. I can do it with
the crtl+*j
by placing the cursor in the middle of the line. But shouldn't it work by
clicking on the picture with the lines going all the way across in the home,
paragraph section of the the toolbar? Shouldn't I be able to so a whole page
at a time or is that not possible? Thank you, Jeel

Clicking the Justify tool will only justify the paragraph where the
insertion point is located. To do the whole page you need to either select
the page and press the tool or better still, edit the style to make it
Justified. Ctrl+Shft+* only toggles the ShowAll (non-printing characters)
command.
