Justifying text in a table

I am using Word version 2002 SP2 in order to generate large reports that have
numerous tables (created using the word feature) within which are inserted
text and numbers. The justification (left, center or right) of the text
changes from table to table however when I force the text to be justified
from say the left to center, it appears that word then re-paginates the
entire document (hangs for a few seconds) and then completes the change.
However my header is then thrown into complete dissaray and the text remains
justified to the left. In order to get out of this mess I press the undo
button and my header returns to normal and the text is then center justified.
Other cells accept justification commands without any problems. Any ideas ?

Hi Oliver,

Your table's header text and its contents should use paragraphs formatted
with different styles. That would allow each to be laid out independently of
the other. Your description sounds as if they're using the same paragraph
style, which is configured with the 'Automatically update' parameter
switched on. You can turn that off by selecting one of the affected
paragraphs and choosing Format|Style|Modify and unchecking the
'Automatically update' parameter. The cell text alignment problems may also
be exacerbated by whatever indentation and tab settings are being used.
