Kan inte skriva "@"-tecken i word och outlook

Har XP och Office 2003. I Outlook och Word går det inte att skriva @.

What happens when you type the "@" sign?

Does it make any difference if you use Word Insert|Symbol, or the WIndows
Character Map to insert the character?

Do the regional settings in Windows correspond to the keyboard layout you
are using (e.g. here I have a UK keyboard, but if I change my regional
settings to U.S. I have to type an " to get an @. Or something like that.)
