KB887797 fails to update

Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6 Service Pack 1 (KB887797) fails to
update:
Setup Error. The version of Outlook Express you have installed does not
match the updated you are trying to install.
This happens during Windows Update, so I trying installing the hotfix
manually.

Without any info about your OS it is hard to help you. For instance; you
don't need this update for WinXP SP2.

Also note that this is an Microsoft Office Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.
