Keep "and/or" from hypenating (Pub2003)

Hello All,

Anyone know how I can keep slashed words, such as "and/or" from hypenating
without changing the paragraph property?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I guess you don't want to hear that it's considered bad grammar to use that
term?

I've never met Alcide so I don't know about his (her?) style.

LOL - I might have meant form.

Most English style guides talk about style as if it were grammar, when in
fact it's only style.

I know.

And/or is in bad style. Ain't is bad grammar. :)

I thought so but you can never tell nowadays. Our organization has a region
director named Mike. I suspect Mike is a "she" in this case.

Bad grammar or bad style? Citation?

Turn off hyphenation, tools, language, hyphenation or insert symbol, special
characters tab, no width non-break.

Hello Mary e. al.,

Turning off automatic hyphenation doesn't work; and when I use manual
hyphenation it doesn't select the "and/or". The "and/or" doesn't get a
hyphen, it just breaks on the slash.

I tried the Insert|Symbol|No-Width Non Break, but that doesn't seem to have
any effect.

Of course, one can put a carriage return before the "and/or", but that is a
clunky solution.

I am still at a loss. Maybe it is time for a suggestion to MS.

Thanks for your assistance.

This is clunky, but it works. First turn on display special characters, Then
on each side of the / insert a non-breaking space. Highlight the
non-breaking spaces and reduce their point sizes to the minimum. A better
fix would be to add 'and/or' to custom.dic so the spell checker would
recognize it as a word, but that isn't possible due to the non alphabetic /
character.
