Keep cursor from moving down the page as I type?

Is there any way to prevent the cursor from moving down the page, line
after line, as I type? Basically, I'd like to keep my eyeline the
same--in the center of the window--while typing long documents. I
don't like to always be staring at the bottom of the screen, which is
what invariably happens. Even if I could just keep a few lines of
blank space constantly below where I'm typing, it would be an
improvement. I realize you can always scroll back up, but I'd prefer
not to have to do that every few moments if possible.

Any way to do this?
