Keep Front page alive!!

I use FrontPage since 97. It is user friendly. Allows amateur like me to
edit/publish web sites. This is one if the MS software that I use daily. I am
SO disappointed to hear that they are going to discontinue FrontPage.

I don't mind Microsoft charge higher price for new FrontPage. Discontinue
FrontPage is such a bad idea. MS need amateurs like me to broadly use
FrontPage. That allows MS to lead the web editing standard

I don't know what are those decision makers are thinking? Maybe their fat
bonus makes their brain ~~ function differently?

But you can still use it and support will continue for some years - see
others posts on this topic.

And I have read that Expression Web is just as easy to use. (I have yet to
try it, but soon........)

If you don't mind paying the higher price, then why are you still using

97 still works right?..and you haven't upgraded to any recent versions...so
keep using 97 - no one's gonna stop ya. And since you haven't upgraded to
any recent versions your negative comments about MS make very little sense.

BUT...you really should check out Expression Web...very nice.

Give Expression Web a try. Many of the dialogs are exactly like
FrontPage, and it's very easy to use. I think that Microsoft has taken
the best features of FrontPage and incorporated them into a great
product that will enable you to build Web sites that meet today's
standards.

Just to add my 2 cents here, EW is nice and if you want to stay up on all
the newest web development features / tools then you definitely want to look
into EW or one of the Visual Studio incarnations, however even though FP
isn't going to have anymore releases it isn't going to vanish from your PC
either. There's no reason you can't keep using FP2003 for years to come. I
still use FP2000 and probably will for a long time. Remember, FP, EW,
Dreamweaver etc are just tools. Just because FP2000 didn't offer rich CSS
or ASP.NET support doesn't mean you couldn't create sites that use them.
You can always use the tool for layout and hand code in the rest. Yes, EW
adds a lot of great features to speed up design and cut down the need for
hand coding but as many advanced developers know, there are a lot of
situations where the tool, whatever it is, doesn't get you all the way there
and you have to switch to code view and do it yourself. I guess my
recommendation would be to try out EW but if you've moved beyond the
beginner stage you might want to start getting some books (or searching the
net) on CSS, server-side scripting, JavaScript, DHMTL etc so you're not
limited by just a tool.

Don't apologize Stephen. I understood what you meant. You didn't say you
were using FP97. You said "I use FrontPage since 97".

Anyway. I'm brand new to Frontpage. I just got a copy of Frontpage 2003
for free in fact. I want to learn about web design I'm currently working a
couple family oriented web pages. I'm going to determine if I like frontpage
based on it's ease of use. It appears that hobbyist and amateurs that use
Frontpage are suffering the same fate as folk who use visual basic pre ".net"
variety.

Will we be able to use Frontpage 2003 with Windows Vista? Maybe I shouldn't
even bother to begin to learn Frontpage 2003.

about HTML or CSS? Have you never looked under the hood of your sites?

Sorry, but MS has not led the web editing standard. Ever. That was
Macromedia (purchased by Adobe). FrontPage hasn't even met web standards for
a long time.

They're thinking MS needs to catch up with the rest of the design world and
stop sitting on their haunches. EW is close to catching DW, but still has a
ways to go.

As the other posters have said, just because FP will no longer be marketed,
it's not going to disappear from your computer (heck, you can still get
copies of Windows 95 if you look hard enough). If you're happy with bloated
code and non-compliant web sites, stick with FP. However, if you've been
working on web sites daily for nearly 10 years, it's time to "graduate" to EW
or DW.

Oh, and I started out on FP97 and used it for 2 years until I discovered DW
and Notepad...

Hi, I also use FP and want to upgrade to EW but I have a number of websites
that I built for other companies that I don't want to lose, or not be able to
change when needed. Will EW over ride FP or can I still have both on my
notebook and use both? There are features in FP that I can't find in the
trial verison of EW. I wanted to learn how to use EW before installing. Any
thoughts?

As long as you have a fully licensed copy of FrontPage on your computer..you
qualify for purchasing the Expression upgrade. When you install the upgrade
you will be able to keep both FrontPage and also Expression on the same
computer.
