Keep laptop up-to-date

We run Outlook 2007 on our desktop and a laptop that is used when
travelling. What is the best way to keep the laptop up-to-date when we get
ready to travel? Should I just copy the *.pst file from the desktop to
laptop then reverse the procedure when I get home? Is there a proper way to
do this? Both machines are networked.

That is one option, just make sure you do not overwrite any pst-files in the
process.
You can link the pst-file properly via;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

Another option is to sync via a USB stick or the network by using a 3rd
party application;

Be easier if the e-mail provider included IMAP access to your account. Then
multiple e-mail clients (same or different hosts) will all stay in sync
against the one account.

The main things I'm looking to keep synced are the contacts, calendars, and
task list items. I'm not really concerned about past emails on the laptop.

Then using a mobile device would probably be easiest since most of them can
sync Calendar, Contacts and Tasks.

I notice there are a number of small files also located in the Outlook
directory. Should any of them be copied over to the machine I'm updating?
