Keep losing new mail icon envelope in system tray

Running Office 2007 on Vista Home Premium and have it set to show new mail
icon in system tray yet it does not appear, it did a couple days ago. The
sound works but not the envelope.
This has happened in the past with previous versions of not only Windows but
Outlook too. Since I no longer am in QA at MS it appears that this bug keeps
getting deferred...
