keep office x when I upgrade to 2004?

I had to replace my computer recently and reinstall things. I
installed office x and then the 2004 upgrade, but can't figure out
what to do with the old office (if anything). Thanks for advice.

Whatever you like. They *will* sit there happily side-by-side.
I *think* I still have both on this..
nah. I did have both for ages...
Honest!

You can do it, but it's not recommended. If you go back and forth (and why
would you) it will cause problems with multiple daemons being launched in
Startup Items. This can cause crashes.

Once you are satisfied with transfer, I would delete the Office X
Application. You can leave the old Entourage X Identity folder in place if
you feel it could be useful for backup.

I've been running both Office X and Office 2004 together for over three
years now without a crash.

- I never run Entourage v.X. I don't know who Diane's referring to when
she says it's not recommended, but I would guess that this would be
where the problem, if any, occurs. Especially with the daemons. Since
Erage is standalone and can't interact with the other apps via VBA, I
can't think of any reason to run Erage v.X, but it certainly doesn't
hurt to keep it on the hard drive.

- XLv.X and XL04 coexist happily on my machine. I run them to verify
compatibility of applications I develop (I still occasionally run XL98,
too). In addition there are a very few XL04 specific bugs that don't
exist in v.X.

- Word v.X and Word04 have always done OK together too. Again, I use the
earlier version for compatibility checks.

- PPT: I use this app so infrequently, I hesitate to say I run them at
all, but I've occasionally had both running. No crashes.

So if you develop applications, or have another specific need for both
v.X and 2004, *I* recommend keeping them both around.

The other reason to keep v.X around is if you have an upgrade version of
Office 2004. Having v.X on the hard drive will save you having to dig up
the v.X CD (for verification) if you ever have to reinstall 2004.
