Keep text together doesn't work!

I'm creating a roster of names, addresses, etc., using Excel as the data
source and Word for the merge. I have tried to format the 'merge codes
paragraph' with orphan/widow control, keep lines together (all of the keep
text/paragraph together options, individually and together) but none of them
work.

Please save me from having to do this the hard way (i.e., manual spacing and
page breaks. I hate the thought of having to check formatting each time
someone changes their address.

I am an avid WordPerfect user and I know what I want can be done, but Word
is not being very friendly to me.

Are you using line breaks or paragraph breaks? For "Keep lines together" to
work, the entire address block must be a single paragraph (line breaks at
the ends of lines).

What I have done is create a catalog merge. The end result is several
listings on each page, with a total of approx. 80 pages. But, I can't keep
the contact information together. I 'fixed' it by telliing the program to
"keep with next" but that throws everything off too. (ya know, with WP, one
click and it's all done.)

Am I going about creating the roster incorrectly? As far as I know the
entire address block is a single paragraph (created thru mail merge). Am I
understanding that I have to go through the entire Word document and place
line breaks after each entry? I sure hope not. Can you enlighten me?
Thanks for replying. Happy New Year!

The "Address Block" uses paragraph breaks rather than line breaks at the end
of each line. Instead of using Address Block, insert the individual merge
fields, with the appropriate punctuation and line breaks. Then your merge
will work correctly.
