Keeping a text box in its place

O

Oz Springs

I have created a macro which sets a text box in a particular spot so that it
will fit across a strip on a pre-printed page. The text box is at the bottom
and there will be free text above it which can be of varying length.

I am recommending to the users - none of whom know Word very well - that
they click on the text box macro button only after they have finished
inserting the text above because if they delete or move the paragraph to
which the text box is anchored, the text box moves upwards, or disappears if
they delete all the paragraphs.

Before I submit the template, is there any way I can lock the text box to
its preset position? Or are there alternatives, for instance can a
continuous section break or a table be placed precisely? I have never heard
of either but then again I always like to be surprised by Word...

Thanks for any help

Hi Oz,

Thanks for sending in this interesting scenario.

As the text box is anchored to a paragraph mark, any changes to this paragraph would effect the position of the text box.

To solve this problem, do the following:
1. Drag and release the text box anchor to the first line of the document.
2. Go to Format Frame dialog
2.1 In Layout tab, press Advanced button
2.2 In Advanced Layout dialog, go to Picture Position tab
2.3 In Options section, uncheck "Move object with Text"

Voila! your text box is unmovable. By doing so, you fixed the anchor to the paragraph mark of the first line of the document and also made setting to not move with the text.

If you only unckeck the "Move with text" setting, your text box will not move from its position until preceding text forces the paragraph linked to your text box anchor to fall to the next page. If you only drag the anchor to the beginning of the document, then it will change positions based on the first paragraph.

Hope this helps!
