keeping outlook offline

I recently got an iphone and started using outlook 2003 to read my
gmail and other email accounts. I want new messages to appear in the
gmail inbox on my iphone when I am not at my computer, but sometimes
outlook continues to receive messages after I exit the program. When
I reboot my computer, Outlook usually goes offline when I close it for
a while and then stays online. Help!

Sounds like you have a 3rd party program/addin that is keeping Outlook 2003
in memory even though you are picking file > exit. (Best guess might be the
iTunes sync addin that gets added to Outlook 2003)
