keeping word doc.saved as word not word pad

I am having trouble keeping word documents saved as word
documents. They continue to be wordpad documents when I
go back in to use them. The format is all changed and I
can't correct anything in wordpad. I could use any help

If you are only using Microsfot Word and not WordPad, then
when you open the file it should open the file in Word.
Unless you do not have Microsoft Word installed on your
machine. Check the Programs in the C:\ to ensure that
Word is installed.
