Keeping Word Maximized?

S

Steven Hilgendorf

Hello,

One of my coworkers is having trouble opening Word in a Maximized
window. Lately, whenever he clicks on the Word shortcut on his desktop,
Word opens in a small (2" x 2") minimized window.

We are using Word 2003 under Windows XP if it helps. Any suggestions
getting Word to open in a full maximized window again?

Thank you,

Steven

What happens if grabs the sides and corners of the window that is shown for Word
and stretches it out ??

Hello Peter,

It makes the window bigger for that session only, as does clicking the
maximize box in the upper right-hand corner. If I save the document
with the window maximized, then the next time I open that saved document
it will be maximized.

The problem occurs when opening a new/blank document with the Word icon,
either on the desktop or on the Start menu.

Any other suggestions?

If you right click on the Word icon and select Properties\General what is set in the
Run box. Use the small arrow to set it to Maximized

Hello Peter,

Changing the various 'run' properties was one of the first things I
tried, should have noted that. It is set to 'Normal Window' and
choosing 'Maximized' or 'Minimized' did not fix the problem.

Since it seems to be a stuck default (when opening a blank document with
the main icon), do you think it could have something to do with
normal.dot, getting corrupt or something? What are the ramifications of
deleting normal.dot? Will Word rebuild the file?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated,

Steven

The window size and location is stored in the Registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data\Settings

Exit Word and rename (or delete) the Settings value. It will be recreated
using the default settings the next time Word starts.

As always, prior to making any changes to the Registry you should review
"Backing up the Registry" and "Restoring the Registry" in the
Registry Help.

Thank you, that did the trick )

Problem solved.
