Keeps asking for Office CD

Garry

Everytime I try to open Word 2000 it keeps asking me for "Microsoft Office 2000 SR1 Professional".

This only happens after I install Service pack 1. If I don't install it, it runs fine.

I'm running Win2k and I'm using Mandatory profiles. Previously I was using NT with Mandatory profiles and Office 97 with no problems.

The problem only occurs after I install o2k SP1.

Has anyone any idea what the problem is?

Susan, thanks for your reply.

This may well have helped but I got the problem sorted by
creating an office administrative share and and applying
the service packs and hotfixes to it. It now no longer
keeps asking for the CD.

....Although now when I got to Windows Update->Office
Update it says SP3 needs applied :

"You need the administrative version of this update due to
previously installed administrative updates."

Even though I have applied the administrative update of
SP3 and if I open MSWord's Help/About it says :Word 2000
SP3.

So I'm wondering is SP3 installed or not.

Well, the only reference I found is this one:

829080 - Office Update Offers Office 2000 SP-3 as a Critical Update After
You Install SP-3:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;829080&Product=ofw

And it doesn't look like it really applies to your situation...however, did
you install the Access 2000 Runtime SP3 from Office Update at the same time?

Also, you can check the version this way:

To determine whether Office 2000 SP-3 is installed, start any Office 2000
program, and then click About Microsoft program on the Help menu. The
product version is (SP-3) if Office 2000 SP-3 is installed.

The following table indicates the version numbers for the Microsoft Office
products as the version numbers appear in the About Microsoft program dialog
box.

Office program File Name SP-3 version
----------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Access Msaccess.exe 9.0.6926
Microsoft Excel Excel.exe 9.0.6926
Microsoft Outlook Outlook.exe 9.0.0.6627
Microsoft PowerPoint Powerpnt.exe 9.0.6620
Microsoft Word Winword.exe 9.0.6926

Because the Help About dialog box sometimes identifies Office 2000 SP-3
incorrectly, Microsoft recommends that you verify the file properties of the
program executable. The following table is a list of the file versions found
in the file properties of the program executable files for Office 2000 SP-3:

Office program File Name SP-3 version
----------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Access Msaccess.exe 9.0.0.6620
Microsoft Excel Excel.exe 9.0.0.6627
Microsoft Outlook Outlook.exe 9.0.0.6604
Microsoft PowerPoint Powerpnt.exe 9.0.0.6620
Microsoft Word Winword.exe 9.0.0.6926
This information is found in
