Keeps restarting

Greetings,

I'm using WinXP Sp1 From my MSDN subscription and I have both VS.NET 2002
and 2003 EA (also from my MSDN subscription) installed on this machine.
Visio for EA was originally installed with VS.NET 2002. I've been using
this machine since at least 1 year ago almost.

All of the sudden when I close Visio it constantly keeps re-opening itself.
The only recourse is to restart the computer by pushing the reset button on
the CPU case.

If anyone has any suggestions how to fix that it would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Shawn

After some googling I found others had the same problem. It's after
installing Adobe Acrobat 6. Some solutions were to remove the acrobat
related vsl files others were unresolved. My solution was to completely
remove Visio and then Reinstall it and it seems to work fine now.

Thanks,
Shawn

i don't know whether this is related, but it seems that Acrobat 6 installs
a dysfunctional version of 'PDFMaker for Visio'. with PDFMaker installed,
i was not able to save any change to Visio toolbars. once i removed it, i
could save toolbar changes. i didn't notice the problem you describe, but
perhaps there is some related side effect.

i asked Adobe Tech support about this, their only response was 'yeah, we
know', but not '...and we're working on it'.

I decided to test whether I can save layouts (I did not uninstall Acrobat
6.0 Professional), only the Visio for EA Architects 2003 (after Visio for EA
Architects 2002)... I have no problems saving the layout and menus and tools
for the Visio. Perhaps you can completely uninstall and reinstall Visio? I
didn't restart my machine in this process (perhaps I should) but I didn't.

Thanks,
Shawn

i suppose that people could try a full re-install after Acrobat 6. i did
not try that, and can't say whether it will be effective. removal of
PDFMaker for Visio does work.

I am having the same problem - every time I close Visio Enterprise
Architect 2003 it restarts itself. I also have Adobe Acrobat 6.0
installed. The only way to close visio is to go to task manager and
kill the process Visio.exe - any other way and it keeps restarting.
Anybody found a solution to this without having to reinstall visio
completely. I have also tried a "repair" of visio but that did not
help either.

Thanks,
Mehul

I've tried the "repair" before I uninstalled it. That didn't work any.

I solved the problem finally.

I had to remove "Adobe PDF Maker for Visio" via Add/Remove Programs
and then physically removing the "PDFMVisio.vsl" file in the
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\PDFMaker\Office" directory. I
believe I had also restarted the machine after this and now Visio
exits fine.

Thanks,
Mehul

I did not find "Adobe PDF Maker for Visio" in Add/Remove
Programs, but just removing the "PDFMVisio.vsl" files
worked fine. (don't forget to remove the one from
"...\Visio10\...\Startup" as well!)
