Key Violation on importing .csv

When I try to import a csv file, I get an error message saying that my
records were lost due to key violations. The text I am importing has all
the fields except the "key" field. I assumed that in this case Access would
do it automatically, but it doesn't.

How can I make it add the key automatically, or am I totally on the wrong
track?

Is the key field for the target table an Autonumber datatype? If not,
Access will not add it on its own. You need to supply it.
