Keyboard and mouse seem to not work with word

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I just upgraded from a Powerbook G4 to a MacBook Pro, and I've used my second key for this Office 2004 edition (Student and Teacher). I installed it all right, entered the product key, and now whenever I try to open it, I can't do anything. The whole "what kind of file do you want to open?" opens up, but I can't click anywhere. I can't even close the program without Force Quitting (as I can't use the mouse and I can't do Command+q). What do I do? How do I fix this?

Thanks,
Chris

Did you upgrade your mouse software?

BTW, if you no longer use the G4 you can reuse that key.

I don't think I'd need to upgrade my mouse software. I'm just using the trackpad. The mouse and everything are fine. It's just when I open up and program in Office.

Have you applied the 11.5.5 Update, repaired disk permissions & restarted
your Mac since installing Office?

Is OS X fully updated (10.5.8)?

I was in the middle of doing the repairing of the disk permissions but got frustrated with how long it was taking. I'll do that again tonight, while i'm asleep, hopefully that'll fix everything.
