Keyboard Command That'll Resize/Position Office Apps When They Reopen

M

Mike

I forgot the keyboard command that'll make Office applications reopen in the
original default position.
Word 2000 opens off center and not full screen. I don't remember the
keyboard command that upon exit
will make the application open in the original default position.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I don't know of a keyboard command. The only command similar to what
you describe I can think of was for the File Manager in Windows 3.x,
Shift + Close.

When you exit Word the current window position, size, etc should
automatically be saved. If it isn't then you can reset the window to
the defaults. These settings are stored in the Registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data

Exit Word and rename the Settings value on the right. Word will create
a new one upon starting using the defaults.

As always, prior to making any changes to the Registry you should
review "Backing up the Registry" and "Restoring the Registry" in the
Registry Help.

In this situation you may want to use the Registry/Export Registry
file command, export your selected branch, and delete the key. That
way if you find the change wasn't necessary or incorrect, you can
merge the deleted branch back to the Registry by double-clicking the
resulting file.

Hi Beth, the 2000 Office Pro toolbar opens as a rectangle on the right side
of the monitor
and on a friend's pc Windows Explorer opens in the center of the screen
everytime windows loads.
My PC is running W2K Pro and my buddy's pc is running XP HOme.
Years ago, I used a keyboard command to force apps to shutdown then reopen
in their locations next time Windows loads.

Hi Mike,

This would be more of a Windows question rather than an Office
question. I can tell you where the OSB position is stored in the
Registry that is utilized when the OSB starts, but I don't think
that's what you are after. :)

You may want to check in a Windows newsgroup and see if any of the
experts on Windows know of an available command.
