Keyboard does not work in Word 2004

Hi, all,

Within any Word 2004 document, my keyboard has suddenly lost all
function. It works in other microsoft office applications, and in all
other applications on my G4 Powerbook (Tiger 10.4.7). Even within
word, I can type within the office assistant field and in the
preferences field, just not in a document.

Have I inadvertently initiated some "disable keyboard" command?

Please help, and thank you in advance,

Barry

Hi Barry,

I've never heard of this before! Have you tried relaunching Word?
Rebooting the computer?

Sorry. I don't know what else to suggest. Hopefully someone else will.

And please report back when you get it fixed. I'd sure like to know what
caused this.

Hi Barry -

Although errant USB connections aren't uncommon what you describe certainly
is - especially since your keyboard is built-in. As Beth indicated, I
haven't seen anything like this. I take it you mean by "preferences field"
the editable fields in the Preferences dialog - If so, what about other
dialogs (such as Format>Paragraph) or if you make a Text Box?. Word doesn't
have any sort of "disable keyboard" command as the program would be
virtually useless without a keyboard, so the answer must lie somewhere else.

Do you have any third party utilities or apps installed that either interact
with Word as add-ins or effect keyboard operation? Can you think of anything
else that has been recently installed, updated, modified coincident with
occurance of the problem? Have you tried repairing permissions - it may not
help, but it can't hurt.

And as one last long shot, have you done anything with the Protection
features which might prevent editing a document?
