Keyboard input stops responding

From time to time, the keyboard stops responding in word 2002 sp3, and I can
only type a new character if I save the document after each character I
type. The mouse contineus to respond normally. This problem does not occur
if I start winword in safe mode. I have renamed normal.dot, uninstalled,
rebooted, and reinstalled word--all to no avail. Any suggestions?
