Keyboard Malfunction.

So I'm an idiot and spilled coffee on my keyboard. Even a bigger idiot for
trying to wipe it down while it was on and plugged in. Now when I try to hit
the space bar, it opens the File button. When I hit CTRL ALT DEL, nothing,
and when I hit some of the letters, more than one appear. What do I do?

In order of priority:

1. Unplug it, then open it up to ventilate it. Wait for it to dry
completely, and try again.
2. If it still short circuits: Buy a new one.

First, you must answer this question: Do you take cream and sugar in
your coffee?

If the answer is no, then do a Charlie42 suggested, if the answer is
yes, buy a new keyboard and start drinking ONLY black coffee or water
while at the computer.

Wanna hear the story of the continuous delete cause by a doughnut? <G>
Don't eat doughnuts at the keyboard, especially the kind with
sprinkles, either!

Just sign me, "I learned the hard way!"

If you use cream and/or sugar, then throw it in the dishwasher.

No, I'm serious! See various links at
http://www.boingboing.net/2005/05/30/clean-your-keyboard-.html for more
information.

If you take your coffee black, wait a couple days to see if it dries out and
starts working. If it doesn't work still, then try the dishwasher. You got
nothing to lose....

There are keyboards and keyboards. One I'll can use is $50 or more
used and worth every cent IMHO.

I like the old Northgate keyboards better than the IBMs I've used, but we're
talking the same language, just a different dialect.

You might want to shoot this guy an email:

http://www.northgate-keyboard-repair.com/

He works on other types of kbds as well. I've bought stuff from him; good
value, good advice, a straightshooter.

I've got two IBM clickys now and I'm very much afraid either one of
them will outlast me by many years, if he can repair body parts I've
got work for him but the keyboards are both fine..
