keyboard shortcut errors

Have run into a problem with Word2003 using Windows Vista. Occasionally, when
using Word the program slips into another set of keyboard commands. For
example, Alt+F, instead of opening File menu, adds a footnote to a document.
Can't get rid of it without closing and restarting Word. Any ideas?

Ctrl+Alt+F adds a footnote. Are you sure you aren't pressing Ctrl
inadvertently? Or perhaps it's stuck?

Thanks for your response, but no, I've checked that. And nothing is stuck.
Another odd change that occurs is Ctrl+S gives me a "É". This is not all the
time but only when the Alt+F change happens.

Possibly you're inadvertently enabling a different keyboard?

If you look under Control Panel, Regional Settings, there is a Keyboard
Language tab. Options include installing different language keyboard and
enabling a keyboard shortcut for toggling between keyboards. It seems that
you may be toggling the keyboard toggle in normal use. I suggest that you
simply uninstall all unwanted keyboards so that only your keyboard is listed
and set as the default.

thank you! That was, indeed, the problem. I have since changed the keyboard
settings and all seems well.

Thanks!
