Keyboard shortcut for italics

Word doesn't recognize Ctrl+I as an italics shortcut. It will accept
Ctrl+Shift+I but not just Ctrl+I. Why not? I've checked my shortcut listings
and Ctrl+I is in there for Italics. I have a USB keyboard if that has
anything to do with it. I swaped out the keyboard for another USB keyboard
but still had the same problem.

Most likely, Ctrl+I has been assigned to another function. Open Tools |
Customize | Keyboard, select any command, and press Ctrl+I as the shortcut
key. Word will tell you what command the shortcut is currently assigned to.
Cancel, then go to that command and remove the assignment.
