Keyboard shortcut for SmartTags

Sanjay Narang

Hi Office Power Users

I hope some one will be a keyboard lover and doesn't use mouse for most o
things

But one thing is causing me to use Mouse in Word 2003. Whenever we ge
SmartTag Icon on items like pasting or AutoCorrect option, we need to clic
that get icon to get the SmartTag options

I think I read about the shortcut key for displaying this menu fo
SmartTags, but can't remember what was it. Can any one let me know, if ther
is a keyboard shortcut for this purpose

Thank
Sanja

Don't have a clue, but suggest you go into Tools | Customize, click on
Keyboard and scour all the possibilities to see if the command exists for
you to assign a keyboard shortcut to. Or if one already exists, it will
show you what it is.

Hi Dayo,

That was my first idea, too. But the only command that refers to smart tags
seems to be ToolsOptionsSmartTag to display the option dialog for smart
tags.

Looks like another feature that was grafted onto Word without too much
regard for customizability, programmability, or existing conventions.

CTRL+Shift+F10 will drop down the "smart tag" menus

Hi Cindy,

Doesn't work for me (WinXP, Word2002). Did you find that shortcut in the
help files?

Regards,
Klaus

Hi Klaus,

Perhaps this combination is assigned to something else in your
environment, either in Word or something in Windows? Works here
just fine...
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=143224 says it nicely:

Ctrl+Shift+F10 Nothing happens

(It's for Word95, but it's what I get in Word2000, 2002 and 2003)

Yes, it's assigned to some WW2_RulerMode command in all versions.
Did you try in Word, or in some other Office program?

I sure hope that isn't the explanation for why I can't get my rulers to stay
put! I see that the "cheat sheet" I have for function keys shows "Activate
the ruler" for Ctrl+Shift+F10.

In Word :) Interesting... I'm pretty sure my Normal.dot is a
"clean" one. If you've brought up an older Normal.dot...?

No, I'm on a new machine with Word2002 pre-installed.
If I use Alt+Ctrl+(NUM+), and then use the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F10, Word
tells me it's assigned to WW2_RulerMode.

Same result on a machine with only Wd2003, and on one with Word6 and 2000.

Alt+Shift+F10 gives me Select on Object Control. What does that mean? When I
press it, nothing appears to happen, and there's no listing in my Undo list.
