Am I correct in assuming that it's not possible to assign
your own keyboard shortcuts for menu commands in
Powerpoint v.X, unlike in Word?

I'm getting really sick of mousing up to the "Insert
Picture From File" menu item...

Hi Matthew,

Just so that others know what it is we're talking about here I'm pasting
the Kerning help topic from Word:
"kerning
The adjustment of text that involves slightly decreasing or increasing
the amount of space between any two adjacent letters to improve the
overall appearance of text. The amount of kerning depends on the font
design and the specific pair of letters.
You can use automatic kerning only with proportionally spaced TrueType
fonts or similar scalable fonts that are larger than a certain minimum
size. The minimum size varies from font to font."

The answer to your question is Yes, you can kern fonts. The trick is
that you can only kern fonts if they within WordArt text boxes. (Use the
WordArt button from the drawing toolbar to make this type of text box).

When a WordArt textbox is selected the WordArt toolbar becomes visible.
There is a button called "WordArt Character Spacing." Click that button
and you'll find a toggle to turn kerning on and off.

You're correct. Sorry ...

You can choose Tools, Customize, click the Commands tab, then click Insert in
the list on the left. Scroll through the list of goodies that appears on the
right ... one will be Insert Picture From File. Drag it to any toolbar you
likd and you've got one-click access to the command. You can also create your
own toolbars to hold your personal favorite commands if you like.

Ya know it's weird that my message responding to a different posting
wound up here in this thread.

Oh well.

In regard to insert picture from file - turn on the drawing toolbar.
View>Toolbars>Drawing. There's a button to insert pictures on the
drawing toolbar, along with lots of other useful stuff.

Thanks to all the MVPs for answering my questions! I had
considered putting the Insert Picture from File onto a
toolbar, though personally I prefer keyboard commands -
but single mouse-clicks are certainly better than
nothing, that's for sure.

And who would have thought of applying kerning through
WordArt!

Thanks again,

Matthew

This doesn't seem to work for Excel X thought :-(

Excel has its own facility for creating keyboard shortcuts. Just go to
Tools > Customize, and click the "Keyboard" button.
