Keyboard won't work in Word!

Last week, the keyboard simply stopped inputing into Word documents,
old, or new. I can use mouse command to cut and paste, insert a
cursor point, but when I type, NOTHING. I was using Word X on my G5.
Nothing had changed to my knowledge. I did re-boots and reinstalls.
I removed every Microsoft preference, plist from my library, bought a
new copy and reinstalled. Even with the new copy, I cannot enter text
using the keyboard. This problem is specific to Word. I can use the
keyboard for all my other applications, including the other products
in the office suite. Has ANYONE heard of this or have any
suggestions? A quick email to (e-mail address removed) would also be
appreciated. With my luck, I won't find my way back to this
newsgroup!

Thanks in advance!

Hello Halliesdad -

I'd suggest that you first make sure that OS X is fully updated using the
Combo updater from the Apple downloads site, then run Disk Utility - Repair
Permissions.

Also, make sure Office is up-to-date as well - 10.3.9 is the current build &
the updater can be downloaded from the Mactopia site. It wouldn't hurt to
repair permissions again after the update.

If that doesn't resolve the problem follow the guidelines on the following
page for testing the Normal template:

http://word.mvps.org/mac/MacWordNormal.html

BTW - For future reference, reinstalling Office *rarely* fixes anything
because the programs themselves aren't typically where the problem lies.
Further, if you reinstall without doing a proper Uninstall first it is a
pointless waste of time - nothing really is accomplished other than the
installer verifying that everything is already there.

Yeah, you're right - I subconsciously associated the OS X nomenclature :-}

Thanks for the catch, Mickey!
