Keyboarding Issues

I am having problems with Office 2007 in regards to typing. This is a fully
purchased version, not a trial, nor did I update from a trial.

I am on a brand new Dell laptop, just opened Word for the first time today
and right off the bat had problems. This problem is only occurring in Office.

When I type "x" it comes out "0077"
When I type "d" it gives me a date.
I can't type a capital "A" at all.

In going back to test out all of the keys again, everything is suddenly
working now. I didn't even restart Word, just alt-tabbed between windows. In
re-testing the keys (on the same page) "x" came out correctly, even though a
couple lines above it still shows "0077" from the last time I tried.

This is so bizarre. It's working now, but any suggestions on if the problem
starts reoccurring? I'd already tried the numlock before and it hadn't
worked, and I checked all of the auto-formating and proofing settings and
didn't see anything strange there.

I didn't do anything between it not working, and working other than come to
this community. Maybe it got scared?
