Keying in start and end dates for split task sections

P

Phillip Armitage

I'm having problems with split tasks. I can define the task and split it,
but Project won't seem to let me specify the exact start and end dates of
the task components. For instance, let's say I have a task I want to start
Monday, work on until Friday then a week later I want to start work on it
again on the Monday and end on the Friday. So, that's two 5 day sections.

Is there a form/view where, having split a task, I can now go to it and key
in/specify the actual start and end dates of each section? i.e. I don't want
to be playing with a mouse, dragging sections back and forth until I get it
to fit right.

Hi Phillip,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I don't think there is anywhere where you could enter the dates. I don't
know why you won't use the mouse as when you select the Split Task button
and point to the bar at the date you want, a popup shows you what the start
date is and as you drag to the right it shows where the end date is if you
let go. You can always zoom in a bit to increase the accuracy of your
pointing.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

Hi Phillip,

You may also try the Task Usage view assuming that you have resources
assigned. Enter zero work in for all resources for the dates you want the
split.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
