Keys Repeat by themselves

We are a Microsoft partner and need some assistance.

I have noted an issue with Word 2007 and a document that I am typing that is
over 14000 words long and contains a large amount of smartart.

The problem is most peculiar. Details of my machine are below:

Sony VAIO VGN-SZ
Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz
2GB RAM
100GB HDD (35GB Free)
Vista Business
Office 2007
External USB keyboard and Mouse connected using a docking station

All products and OS is up to date. Software is from the Direct Action Pack.

I have been creating the document for some time now and had not seen this
issue. Today I breached the 14000 word barrier and found the following
happening. When I am typing, Word suddenly repeats the last key pressed 17
times. This happens regularly every 100 words or so. This can vary slightly
depending how fast I am typing. It is always the last key pressed and you do
not have to be typing when it occurs.

For instance the key that is repeated could be the SPACE key, or the
BACKSPACE or indeed the RETURN key. Each and every time it is the last key
pressed prior to the repeat occurring. And always 17 repeated characters plus
the original one.

This problem occurs ONLY in Word 2007. We have tested other applications to
see if they exhibit the same issue but we are unable to replicate it in other
apps.

Could you please assist.

Is it ONLY that document? If so, it must be partially corrupt. Use SaveAs
and choose to save the document in RTF. Close the document and Word. Open
Word and select the document and SaveAs choosing .doc format. Does that
clear the corruption?

Hi Terry

Thanks for the reply. No it is not only that doc. Odd thing is that it does
not really happen anywhere else. Not sure if it is some Vista update recently
that has caused it. I am investigating further also and checking the hardware
too.

I was wondering if it is some interrupt issue with USB devices as the
keyboard is a USB one.

If it is any document, then maybe it is printer driver partially corrupt.
Make sure that you have the latest printer driver and then delete and
reinstall your printer.
