keystroke shortcuts

I am keyboard-oriented rather than rodent-oriented (I learned to type on one of those old glass-sided Imperial clunker typewriters!), and new to PowerPoint...I am used to PhotoShop where I can customize keyboard shortcuts, but ppt doesn't seem to allow that. E.g., I use Insert>Duplicate Slide a zillion times a day and would love a keystroke to do it! Also Formatting Palette>Size, Rotation and Ordering>Layering>Send Backward etc...all of which have keystrokes in PhotoShop. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Much obliged for any help

Unfortunately PPt is the one program in the Office suite which doesn't
provide for customizing keyboard shortcuts... But that doesn't mean you
don't have several options :)

First, many commands in PPt already have keyboard shortcuts assigned to them
- the Duplicate command, for example, is Command+D. Most keyboard shortcuts
are listed in the Menus along with the command they trigger. You can also go
to PPt Help on the term keyboard shortcuts for more, many of which aren't
indicated in the Menus.

You can also create macros [in PPt 2004] to accomplish processes & assign a
keystroke to the macro. There is no macro recorder, however, so you need to
know VBA to create the macros.

Very many thanks, Bob... Cmd-D only works in Slide Sorter View and Outline View, I work in Slide View 8)...

I often thought I'd like to tackle VBA, so...now's a good time to start!

Thanks again

Hi Roy -

I have no problem with Cmd+D in Normal View or Slide View - It isn't a
matter of which view you're in so much as it may be a matter of what you're
attempting to duplicate :) If you're actually looking to *repeat* a command
use Cmd+Y instead - IOW, Cmd+D doesn't apply to everything, it's primarily
for duplicating selected objects.

If you wan to duplicate the entire slide use Shift+Cmd+D.
