Korean language and symbols everywhere.

I am using Window XP, with MS Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition. When I am on Internet Explorer I will frequently come across Korean symbols in the text of a web site. When I save files on MS Word they have a W with a line through it. (The Symbol for Korean Won) and now my monthly calendar in MS Outlook is a combination of numbers and Korean symbols.
I have tried the following:Went to Microsoft Offfice Tools and removed Korean from the selected languages. I have also asked my Korean exchange student to help me fix the problem. Neither one was successful

Have you checked the regional settings control panel in Windows? That's
where much of the default settings are stored and manipulated.
