Labels, manual feed and Word 2000 on Windows XP

Hi all.
I have a user who had Word 2000 SP-? on Windows 98 SE, printing to an
HPLJ 4000 on the Win NT 4 network.
Now, she has Word 2000 SP-3 on Windows XP SP1 printing to the same
HPLJ 4000 on a Win 2000 SP-3 network.
The problem is, the labels no longer automatically print to the manual
feed tray, which she insists they used to do.
I was able to recreate this using a different driver on a different
computer, so I don't think it's an HP issue. It appears Word 2000 on
XP defaults to "Default tray (Auto select)" for the paper source for
labels and envelopes. You can override that, of course, but you have
to do it every time.
I've completely un-/re-installed Office 2000, and checked this problem
each time I applied one of the three service packs. I've also deleted
all "NORMAL.DOT" files on the system. Nothing has fixed the problem.
Microsoft says something like this (but pertaining more to envelope
feeds) was fixed in SP-3, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Word 97 on Win 98 SE defaults to "Manual feed" (as it should), but I
don't have Word 2000 on a Windows 98 machine anymore to check that.
Has anyone had a similar problem and been able to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

-Steve
